4000 Steps

Pregnancy Support Services of Wake Forest (Soon to be First Choice Pregnancy Solutions) puts on a walkathon every year to raise money for their nonprofit organization. This was our first year to participate, in which my team and I raised $1000. I want to personally thank Jimmy and Natalie Bunch, Liz Fowler, Erin Cooney, Allie Esposito, Allen and Teresa Smith, Tori Smith, Sean Hicks, Rachel Spreng, Sherry and Troy Meachum, and Rebecca Jones. I know this was tough to try to raise money especially since most of us are broke college students, but I want to thank each of you for having such a wonderful and joyful heart to participate for the cause and support such a great organization that helps save lives.

More Conversations with Matthew

Matthew: So, if Mom is not with me, I cannot talk to strangers?

Me: Nope. You can't talk to strangers.

Matthew: But if Mom is with me, then I can talk to strangers?

Me: Well, Mom or Me or Dad have to be right with you and then you can say hi or if they talk to you, you can answer them back. But if we're not near you, do not talk to the stranger.
AND! If the stranger has a puppy, you still can't talk to them.

Matthew: Wait. I can't talk to the puppy?!

Me: I'm sorry but no you can't.

Matthew: Well... if Mom isn't with me, can I talk to myself?

Me: Yes, you can talk to yourself. Not sure I would want anyone to see that though.

Matthew and I were watching John Mayer's new music video for Shadow Days. He started nodding his head to the music and looked like he seemed to enjoy the song.
(If you haven't heard the song, you probably want to listen to it. Otherwise you won't know why this next part is so funny.)

After we finished the video, Matthew looked at me and said in a very sympathetic voice, "Yeah, he's had a rough start."

World Peace?

Yes, the Johnson house was on fire last night. We have this love for the Thunder that I thought was never possible, especially for me. I never thought that I would enjoy watching basketball or even more, LOVE watching basketball.
The Thunder get it. They understand the spirit in which the great city of Oklahoma City supports them and even the great state of Oklahoma. If the OKC Bombing didn't happen, these guys wouldn't be here. And this team respects that. I'm new to enjoying the NBA, but I've never felt this kind of connection between a team and it's city. When you knock player down, you cause a city to rise. Unity - that my friends, is world peace.

Our Shepherd

I miss this kiddo so much. This is a picture his dad (my bro) posted on instagram, and it almost made me cry. Uncle Jared and Auntie Rae Rae love and miss you, Shep.

Learning How to Spell

Me: Matthew, spell DOG.

Matt: D-A-D

Me: No. That's how you spell DAD. I want you to spell DOG. Sound it out.

Matt: Ruff!

It's Market Time!

Matt and I went to the Raleigh Farmer's Market for the first time this Spring. It's strawberry season, so samples are everywhere of these deliciously sweet berries. Matthew loves fruit so he loves coming here with me and also to Whole Foods because there's so many samples to try. (Maybe he'll grow up to be a food critic. He rarely says no at trying anything).
Our tradition at the Farmer's Market is to always get a bottle of pop. RC is Matt's favorite.
Here's Matthew with his Justice League bag. He just had to help me carry the potatoes in his own bag. So sweet. (And a such stinker! Look at that face! He makes me laugh constantly!)
 Tasting those strawberries! Yumm!

A Day at Duke

Our good friend Amanda Schmidt had one of her students Victor send us a Flat Stanley. Since there's not much to see in Raleigh, Matthew and I took Stanley to Duke for the day. (Coincidentally, Payton Manning was there that same day, but we sadly didn't see him.)

Taste Testing

We've recently discovered that I am lactose intolerant. Therefore, I cannot have Nutella. It's a tragedy because God himself makes it in heaven, and then sends his angels to deliver it at the grocery stores. You can purchase vegan hazelnut spread but it's costs around one arm, a few fingers and both legs. We even tried to buy the ingredients, but that also seemed a bit steep for us.

Yesterday, my friend Liz and I were at World Market, and I found some dark chocolate spread that has ZERO milk in it and only cost 3 dollars! Let the heavens rejoice! I immediately showed Jared once we were home, and we couldn't wait to have some this morning!
Breakfast time had finally come! I opened the jar... and...
Thinking Jared got too excited last night over my extraordinary find, I giggled and said, "Jared, you seriously couldn't wait?"

"Umm... Nope, that wasn't me." said Jared. "Those are definitely fingers."

Needless to say, my smile soon disappeared, and I'll be returning World Market in the coming hours.

Long time - No see

Most of our small group (or at least it felt like most) went on the Ukraine trip. So for their first time back to our regular Thursday night happenings, we grilled burgers, played cornhole, heard Ukraine stories, and watched a fireball attack Micah. You know - the usual.

The burgers weren't cooking properly (as you can see - this was after they had been on the grill for a long while).
Micah decided to check the hose connected to the propane tank. I'll let you assume the rest. According to onlookers, the fireball hit him in the face and rolled down his back. Luckily, only his hair, beard and eyebrows were a bit singed. "It looked like someone threw cocoa powder in his face." one witness said. He was under shock for a good while, but no serious injuries or burns were reported. His hair will be as good as new (or just new) by the time his wedding roles around in June.
This is Micah pre-fireball playing cornhole with Jared. (Little did they know what was about to take place.)
Me and Liz - Couldn't wait for her to get back home.
Even Duke, our group mascot, was just thrilled everyone was home!
